Unstuffed Cabbage

  • In dutch oven or soup pot heat olive oil. Add meat and break apart and move around the pot with wooden spoon. Do this until meat is almost half way to being completely browned.
  • Add chopped onion, garlic cloves or garlic powder and cook stirring till translucent and meat is completely brown.
  • Add cabbage, Stir around in pot. Add can of tomatoes but do not drain them.
  • Add the pasta sauce and water. Stir. Add the sugar, Stir, Salt and pepper. Cook for 15 minutes on medium low heat and stir every 7 minutes.
  • Add the rice. Cook for 10 more minutes stirring to make sure it does not stick on bottom of pan. Recipe is done when the cabbage is slightly limp which it should be now. Enjoy!

  1. A great cold day dinner....my Grandmother used to combine her stuffed cabbage with pierogis...what a grand dinner that was. My take, I eliminated the rice and substituted delicious mashed cauliflower for pierogi. It was quite good.
