  • Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl.
  • Mix on medium speed with an electric mixer for 5 minutes.
  • If you want to tint it, the icing gel colors work best. Just add it gradually until you get the desired shade.
  • Icing can be stored in airtight containers at room temperature for an indefinite amount of time since there's nothing in it to go bad.

  1. I agree with Bake-a-holic... I added more shortening (about two silverware tablespoons) and more water (around 1/4 cup more) though and it came out great. Nice, light, fluffy, very very sweet though.
     
  2. Sorry I can't give this recipe more stars. I had barely covered the cupcakes and the icing turned very thick and not very workable. It was fairly easy to make and it did have a good flavor. I put the left over cupcakes in the frige (we have dogs) and the next day, the icing was like cement (tasty, though!). DO NOT REFRIGERATE!!!
