Vanilla Vodka Creamtini

"Yum! This was published in Midwest Living Jan/Feb 2009 issue. Tip: If you do not have vanilla vodka, substitute 1 cup regular vodka and 1 teaspoon vanilla. *****Garnish these with white or dark chocolate curls or shavings."

directions

  • Rub the rim of four to six chilled martini glasses with a wedge of orange. Spread vanilla sugar onto a plater. Invert glasses into the sugar to coat rims. Set aside.
  • In a cocktail shaker or container with tight-fitting lid, combine half of the ice cubes, half of the vanilla vodka, half of the Irish cream liqueur, and half of the Cointreau®. Cover and shake vigorously. Strain mixture into two or three of the martini glasses; discard ice cubes. Repeat with remaining ice cubes, vodka, liqueur, and Cointreau®. Strain into remaining martini glasses.
  • Garnish drinks with orange slices and chocolate shavings, if you like. Makes 4 to 6 drinks.
  • Vanilla Sugar: Fill a clean and sterilized 1-quart jar with 4 cups sugar. Using a sharp paring knife, slit one 4- to 6-inch vanilla bean lengthwise. Insert both halves into sugar, making sure all of the bean is covered with sugar. Secure lid and store in a cool dry place for 2 weeks before using. (Will keep indefinitely.) Makes 4 cups.

  1. This is so yummy. I made it for 1 and got a nice martini just for me. I used irish cream. For the orange liqueur, I used Grand Marnier and 1/2 tablespoon to give more taste. I used vanilla vodka. Thanks Queen Dana :) Made for the Zwizzle Chicks of ZWT

  2. This was a nice sweet treat! I made it into a mini-drink and used 1 oz. vanilla vodka, 1/2 ounce irish cream, 1 ounce non-fat half-and-half and a splash of light cream. I noticed that some reviews said that it was very potent-maybe the whole milk, whipping cream and half and half should be listed apart from the irish cream? Thank you for the enjoyable drink. 3. I loved this, and I think it was the vanilla touch in the vodka that made the difference. I have to admit though, this cocktail packs quite a potent punch with so much vodka. I used vanilla-infused vodka and Irish cream, and made the full recipe (which provided 4 very nice cocktails). I didn't taste any of the Cointreau though, so I squeezed the tip of the orange that I had after cutting it to get my orange slice, and it added a very slight citrus touch. Thanks, Queen Dana. Made for Zaar World Tour #6.

  4. WHEW! This one is potent! Needs some more sweetness and some more orange flavor in my humble opinion. I cut the recipe in fourths and it made 1 smallish martini. Used regular Absolute vodka and added vanilla as suggested. For the cream, I used whipping cream. Made for Team SSaSSy for ZWT6 Scandinavian weekend.

I love trying new dishes. For me, food is a way of experiencing the world without leaving my home, and I'm hoping that as my two sons get older that I can convince them to come with me on my culinary adventures.
