directions

  • Using a food processor, process the dates and cranberries until it forms a ball (your food processor will make a weird noise.).
  • Remove fruit paste from food processor and place in mixing bowl. Do not clean food processor.
  • Pulse almonds until it looks chopped (a few steps before it turns into almond meal).
  • Oil your hands. Knead the nuts and cinnamon powder into the fruit paste until the nuts are incorporated.
  • Shape into a brick and then slice and wrap.

  1. Wow! These are great! 2yo and 4yo sons gobbled them up and my husband said they were the best thing ever. lol. They tasted just like a Larabar and I think if I could make them look perfectly square machine-cut, no one would know the difference. I experimented with apricots, cashews, and cardamom instead of cherries, almonds, and cinnamon and those were really good too! These are so good that for my 2yo, the third little piggie in This Little Piggy Went to Market now has to have Larabars! Thank you very much! Reviewed for Healthy Choices ABC tag game.

  2. excellent!!!!! Silly me jumped in before reading directions and put everything in my food processor at the same time, then couldnt figure out why it wouldnt form a brick!!! Will follow directions next time. BTW formed balls with it and thinks it would look nice on a christmas cookie platter.

  3. Good basic recipe. However the first time I tried them I realized they needed tweaking. The proportion of almonds and dates is too much and you really lose the tartness of cherries that real larabars have. I suggest cutting down to 1 cup of almonds and increasing the amount of cherries to 1.5 cups. These are reminisce of larabars but not quite there though the technique is awesome.

  4. Never ever in my life had I heard of a larabar until I tagged this recipe, but after making these, I'll be going out of my way to make more, find more & enjoy more ~ THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY GREAT in the taste & nutrition departments, & I found it very enjoyable in their making, as well! Thanks for sharing this keeper of a recipe! [Made & reviewed in Healthy Choices ABC tag]

  5. The cherries are missing from this recipe. It is a cranberry bar, but not a cherry one!
