  1. I almost always make some modifications to recipes I try, and this was no exception. I wanted to keep the dish healthy, however, so I subbed ground turkey for the ground round, added garlic, italian seasoning, chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, and onions. Pre-baking the crust for about 10 minutes prior to adding the toppings helped make the crust a little crispier, which is how we like it. Delicious result, and this is going into my recipe rotation!

  2. I Make this all the time. I add 2 small cans of tomato sauce(basil, oregano & garlic) flavored. Drain the juice from the tomatoes. Pre Cook your pizza crust for 10 minutes by itself, then add meat mixture and cheese and cook an additional 10 to 12 min., till good and brown. The recipe from the cookbook calls for an onion, but I prefer it w/o the onion. Hope these tips help you! Everyone that tries it loves it and wants the recipe. Enjoy! :)

  3. A favorite in our house. I wasn't expecting that much flavor. After reading the reviews this is what I did: prepared the dough for 10 minutes. Meanwhile browned the ground round with a small diced onion. Added diced tomatoes, along a small can of sliced black olives (drained) and a jar of sliced mushrooms (also drained) and cooked until all warmed through. I also added Italian seasoning to the meat mixture. Once dough was prebaked, I topped it with the meat/veggie mixture and then added a tin of anchovies to 2/3 of the pizza to make hubs happy (yuck). Pop all back in the oven for an additiona 9 minutes; added the cheese and baked for 3 more minutes. As a point of I info, the 1st time I bought pizza dough I could barely stretch it to fit the bottom of the pan let alone up the sides..so don't buy Pillsbury classic, it won't fit the pan. Pillsbury this crust fits perfectly and also 1/2 up the sides. Hope this helps!

  4. I am really excited about this recipe because it is so easy and good. I used whole wheat pizza dough that I baked for 10 minutes before adding toppings. Then I added cooked hamburger, diced tomatoes mixed with some pizza sauce, italian seasoning, black olives, red onions, light mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. I then baked for about 10 minutes more. It was thick and delicious and so filling. I'm sure I will make again. Thanks for posting!

  5. I made this exactly like the recipe said which was really good. I added up the points on my weight watchers app like I always do when making new things and this is 7 points.

Tweaks

  1. I made this with ground turkey instead of beef and I added onions and Italian seasoning. The ground turkey I bought was 1.25 lbs and the can of tomatoes was half an ounce less than the recipe suggested so for those who like a meaty not soupy at all casserole it was great! Super easy to make. I also added a little more cheese using a fat free shredded and layered the meat then cheese like a lasagna. I live by myself so I made this and ate it for lunch the rest of the week, if warming it up in the microwave the crust does get a little soft (like a pizza crust). I'd recommend using a toaster oven.

  3. I am making it tonight and I will use homemade Italian Sausage instead of ground beef...(I make it with Turkey Breast) and spice up the sauce with garlic and onions.

  4. I tried this with ground deer meat instead of beef (as I do with most of the beef recipes). After making the first time, I believe that sausage would be good also and include onions, bell peppers, or any other pizza topping. GREAT!!

  5. Very good! so good that my husband and daughter both had 2 pieces so that leaves one extra for my lunch tomorrow : ) I added mushrooms and next time will try it with pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce.
