Directions

  1. In a 3-quart saucepan, melt butter or margarine; add onions.
  2. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are very tender.
  3. Stir in the flour, salt and pepper. Add milk and chicken broth. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 1 minutes more.
  4. Add cream. Cook and stir till heated through.
  5. Top with croutons, if desired.
