Whole Grain Flax Bread for Your Bread Machine

"I love my bread machine! I created this recipe because I wanted a healthy everyday bread. I buy whole flaxseeds and grind them very fine in a clean coffee-grinder. I use some White Whole Wheat flour in the recipe to yield a slightly milder flavor than the traditional Hard Red Whole Wheat found in most grocery stores. You can substitute regular whole wheat if you don't have it on hand. The final product is a light & fluffy healthful bread with a slight nutty flavor. I have a 1-1/2 lb. bread machine and it rises to the top of the pan, making for a good-sized loaf."

directions

 • Add ingredients into your bread machine pan in the order listed by your manufacturer.
 • I add them in the order listed above.
 • Use your "basic bake" and "light" crust setting.
 • Note: the dough may be a bit wet. The whole grains absorb some of the moisture during the kneading and rising (namely the oats). Adding additional flour will yield a denser bread.
 • Remove bread from pan promptly after baking and cool on a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!

 1. A great tasting bread with just the right density. Thanks!

 2. My first attempt with a brand new bread machine, and it turned out delicious, and rose perfectly. (An absolute miracle considering I forgot to add both the sugar and salt for the first kneading cycle - luckily I was able to sneak them both in at the start of the second kneading cycle and save the loaf!)

Will definitely make again!

 3. I have made this recipe 4-5 times now and love it! I follow the recipe exactly and it turns out wonderfully in my bread machine. I do use the whole wheat setting and medium/dark crust as that is what I prefer. I also like to sprinkle oats and sunflower seeds on the top as it rises, before it bakes. Thanks for a wonderful recipe.

 4. I made this bread yesterday and it was perfect. I actually used 1.5 cups of white flour and 1 cup wheat...just to test. Next time I'll do more wheat. It'll be my regular bread! :)

 5. This is a WONDERFUL bread that raises well and had excellent flavor.
