  • Cream butter and sugar together. Stir in eggs, one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla.
  • Peel, core, and chop apples. You should have about 3 cups.
  • Stir dry mixture and milk alternately into creamed mixture, starting and ending with dry mixture, making 3 additions of dry and 2 of milk.
  • Fold in the chopped apples.
  • Bake in the greased and floured 13x9-inch baking pan in a preheated 350°F oven for about 35 minutes, or until a tester poked in the centre comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in the pan before cutting. Cut into 32 pieces.

  1. I made this cake exactly to the recipe, and it turned out really well! Very moist, but not very sweet, so I made a glaze and drizzled it on top. It really balanced the overly sweet glaze. Very good!

  2. This recipe is sooo good! I followed every single thing except for sugar. Our household only use raw honey and stevia as sweetener for health reason, so 3/4 cup sugar feels like too much for me. Instead of 3/4 sugar, I only put 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup raw honey. The sweetness is perfeeect! Not super sweet but sweet enough to pass as a great tasting apple cake. Great recipe!

  3. I love this cake! So nice to have whole wheat dessert recipes. I thought it was plenty sweet just as is and will definitely make it again.

  4. I made according to recipe and it was very tasty. Not too sweet and very moist. Yum :o)

  5. Fantastic & easy!

Tweaks

  1. 2 cups fresh milled soft white wheat flour (whole) 3 tsp saigon cinnamon, 1 tsp nutmeg 3/4 cup sucanat instead of brown sugar 1 snack cup of unsweetened, plain applesauce 2 Tbsp extra milk

  2. Delicious! Kudos to cuisinebymae! And guess what? You don't have to follow the recipe exactly to get a fabulous whole wheat apple cake. I had to make some necessary changes (OJ instead of milk, pure apple concentrate and date syrup instead of sugar) and it adapted very nicely. I also skipped the complex mixing instructions. Just dump the well mixed dry stuff with the well mixed wet stuff and beat with a mixer for a few minutes. Oh, and I also only cut it into 20 pieces. Why? Cuz I'm a rebel like that :)
