1 (14 inch) deep dish pizza
ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (0)
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄8 cup oil
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 1⁄3 cups unbleached flour
- 3⁄4 teaspoon salt

Sauce:
- 1⁄2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon salt (optional)
- 1⁄4 teaspoon oregano
- 1⁄8 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1⁄8 teaspoon pepper
directions
- Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
- Let stand 5 minutes Stir in oil, flours and salt with bread hooks on mixer.
- Add about 1 cup additional unbleached flour.
- Work into dough.
- Grease pan and sprinkle with cornmeal Let raise 1 hour.
- Top with Sauce and bake at 450.
- Pizza Sauce: Saute onions in oil until onions are clear. Add remaining ingredients.
- Simmer for 10- 20 minutes.

5 stars is for the dough. This recipe makes me feel like the queen of the kitchen! I do wish the recipes were separate though. I'd only give the sauce 3 or 4 stars. In my opinion, the salt is NOT optional, and I made several other adjustments, it just tasted flat to me. Good jumping off point though, I plan to post my shamless adaptations and you can see what you think! The crust on the other hand, is wonderful. Soft and kind of chewy, easy from start to finish, and so much better for you than plain white flour. Not dry at all. Thanks for posting this!
