I must have done something wrong because this cake is way too bland for me. I wonder if I should have added salt like another reviewer did. I already had everything together when I realized I had no oil, but I used shortening instead which shouldn't have affected the taste that much. I only tried a piece without icing. Maybe once I add icing I'll like it more. My bf loves chocolate as much as I do and he really likes it. So maybe it's just me! :) It did come out huge and moist so it looks fine - just tastes off to me.

I must say I wasn't too convinced when I decide to try this recipe, in the back of my mind I thought it would be flavourless because there was "no real chocolate" inside....boy I was WRONG! (:>) This is amazingly tasty and chocolatey, I split it in two and filled it with a thick layer of homemade chunky peach jam, and it was truly paradisiac!!! Thank you for posting!

WOWEE!!! This is some recipe you have here. I had almost given up on making cakes from scratch they just never turn out for me. Maybe we are just to used to box cakes. But this cake was phenomenal!! The BEST chocolate cake i have ever made from scratch or box. It made a big, beautiful almost black cake it was so chocolatey. I picked this recipe b/c it had 1 cup of cocoa. It seemed like alot but i followed recipe exactly. So moist it did not need icing but i frosted it with cream cheese frosting. WOW, i had to hide what little cake there was left or i would not have any tomorrow. Thank you JCrosgrey =)
