Ww Herbed Spilt Pea Soup

"Original recipe is weight watchers... but it is in my nature to tweak even the best recipe. My biggest change was adding stock for half the water and beefing up the vegetables."

  1. My husband loves split pea soup; thank u for sharing a healthy version! I used dried onion & jarred minced garlic but had no carrots. I also only had chicken broth & used the suggestion to replace 1/2 the water w/ broth. For marjoram, the kitchen dictionary said thyme was a good sub, so that's what I used! I used closer to a cup of lean ham since hubby loves ham, and about an hour was just right to cook the peas. The back of the bag of peas said cooking takes 20-30 min--but an hour worked fine! He enjoyed this with a sandwich; said it needed more salt but he enjoys salty foods LOL! Thanks again for sharing!

  2. Wow! This was so easy and so tasty, loved it. I am on weight watchers, so I really wanted to reduce the fat even further. I used no oil, 1 tbl of onion powder and and 1 tsp. of garlic powder. I used better than boullion ham base in the water insted of the ham. I also used better than boullion vegetable base in water for the broth. After an hour I ended up adding a little more water and cooking about 10 minutes longer to get them the way I like them. Thanks so much- I need to figure out the points.

  5. This split pea soup is so very good, wish I could give it more than 5 stars! I doubled the recipe and used 3 cans of vegetable broth and than finished with the water. Also used matchtick cut carrots and added some celery that I needed to use up. This was very easy to make, tastes and looks like I spent all day making it. My mom also enjoyed this soup very much! Thank you for posting and tweaking this recipe!

I love to cook, to feed people and to experiment. Unfortunately I have a very limited audience, so most of my creations are reserved for me alone. My BF is a sort of picky eater and all of my favorites he dislikes, so I'm learning how to get around lots of ingredients. Like mushrooms (so sad), tomatoes and onions... who cooks without onions? In this one way, it's almost a good thing that our schedules allow for only 3 meals a weeks together :-)
