Yankee Cheater Pulled Pork

"As a Washington State transplant, I have wowed a lot of Texans with my pulled pork. It is a basic slow cooker method, but it tastes like it has been slow smoke'n in a pit for days. Top it with some slaw on a bun and you have got yourself some mighty fine BBQ. If you're not a fan of sweet honey BBQ sauce, go ahead and cut back the honey and brown sugar. I changed the amounts after reading my first review, as this was first posted straight from my head and confirms my faulty memory. But I like it a little sweeter to counter the heat from the chipotle."

 1. Another winning recipe from ROV Chef ☻ I only tweaked the recipe a little. I cut off the skin/fat cap first. I use Paula Deen's pork rind recipe at foodnetwork.com for it. In the South, we eat everything but the "oink". You might want to use half the chipotle in adobo, if you want less heat. YUMMERS

 2. Made this when the guys came over for football and everyone loved it. It was super easy and tasted great. I'm not sure I got the sauce right and ended up just adding a bit of bottled sauce, so it probably wasn't as good as it could have been, but regardless it did have a nice smoke flavor for being in a crock pot.

 3. It's a great and easy recipe. You may want to cut the honey and brown sugar to 1/4 each, or just add them to taste. At full strength, it's awfully sweet, but still tasty. It also makes your house smell wonderful.

 4. Well Chef, you got me again. My DH and I have long been fans of the Carolina style of pulled pork, with a vinegar based sauce, no tomato?! Anyhow, I love your recipes and I had a pork shoulder and a can of chilis in adobo, so off we went... First of all, my pork wouldn't fit in the crockpot, so I drug out the electric roaster, no prob. I put it in frozen, cooked overnight and in the morning I had the most beautiful, tender chunk of meat ever. I was nervous about the sauce, wondering what hubby would think, but we loved it! Served with cole slaw on a kaiser roll with over roasted sweet potato fries and we ate 'til we were sick!! This IS our new recipe! Thanks Chef, it's a winner.

 5. This is a FIVE STAR KEEPER! Absolutely delicious. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't read the instructions carefully and added all the ingredients to the crockpot in the first place. I went ahead and made the sauce too, but the meat already tasted so good that we just dribbled a little sauce on top for more flavor. I used only 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt rather than a tablespoon. Made for Pick-A-Chef. Thanks ROV Chef for a truly great recipe.

I used to cook professionally, but got out of the business because it is a soul crushing, low paying job. If you want to hate cooking, run a hotel kitchen. Now that I don't have to do it for a paycheck, I cook for my friends and family as much as possible. I enjoy making everything from BBQ to Bur Blanc. I love mixing chocolate with spicy ingredients. I am rather new to baking, (only a few years) but I really love it and try to bake whenever I get a chance. I work offshore in the Gulf and I always sneak down to the galley to make stuff for the guys. I'm a huge fan of Alton Brown. I think the guy is a genius. I have tried so many of his recipes, and they all rock. Since finding this website and having a public place to post my recipes for others to review, I have become more conscientious about writing my kitchen experiments down. I still have yet to get my whole wheat pizza dough to paper, but I promise, it's on it's way. My passion for cooking has increased 10 fold since I left the biz, and I plan to keep putting new recipes here and trying my hand at new stuff.
