We live in the foothills of the Himalaya's...yes, it's gorgeous here....Doing business here. My husband is the chef in a foreign owned cafe and lodge here just a few hours from the border of Tibet...stop by some time. Don't worry, we are not "westernizing" the place...just offering a little comfort to weary travellers who long for a respite from their journey along with some comfort food! I cut my teeth on learning the basics in the kitchen through the years by spending hours and hours in the "heart of the home"...by raising 7 children! 4 are grown and on their own. And they all LOVE to cook! My philosophy with such a large family to feed, was to try to give them a cultural experience every week. Many times we would eat food from several different countries in one week. The kids loved it! They didn't always clean their plates, it was a challenge to them at times to broaden their "taste bud" horizons. But through these experiences, they learned to appreciate different cultures - and ended up traveling to a few countries along the way, and have a love for cooking. My husband's love for cooking came later through "hobby" cooking - and he had the chance to cook for a college campus for a while. Hard audience to please there! We (my husband in the cafe, me for the foreign community here) now are so blessed to be able to live in a foreign culture and share great food with people from all over the world! So, you never know - as we browse the wonderful recipes here, we may be trying one of YOUR delicious recipes, with a tweak or two to call it our own, in our cafe. And it just might bring a smile to a road weary traveller, on the road to ShangriLa....
