I was born and bred in the tiny beautiful sunny tropical island of Singapore. Nine months ago our family relocated to Columbus, Ohio. It was a 'half way around the world trip'. The flight took nearly 30 hours! For now I call Columbus 'home'. While I dislike flying distances of over 8 hours, I do enjoy traveling. So far I have been to 14 countries and lived in 5 of these for between 1 to 6 years. People, their culture and their food (of course!) fascinates me. My wonderful husband's love for food and never ending praise for my cooking further encourages me to try new recipes. Eventually, I hope to post some of my favourite recipes here. A special needs educator by training, since my arrival to this exciting neighbourhood I have taken on a new role - that of a full time homemaker and a volunteer worker at a local church. These non demanding roles meant I have time to surf the website as never before. What a luxury! I would dearly loved to meet fellow Singaporeans in Columbus gather for some 'makan' or just talk about Singapore food: char kuay teow, rojak, laksa, mee siam, mee rebus, kuay chap, bak kut teh (herbal pork ribs) oooh . . . so sedap! Looks like I will have to wait till my next trip 'home'. My favourite 'evergreen' cookbooks are the Australian Women's Weekly series especially 'Best Recipes from the Weekly', 'Cakes and Slices', 'Beautiful biscuits' and Reader's Digests' Quick Thrifty cooking. As American cookbooks use 'sticks' of butter and lbs and ozs. it was a steep learning curve as I have always used the metric system and 'blocks' of butter! My recent favourite was Joy of Cooking - Christmas cookies. Recipezaar is my favourite cooking website.
