I'm middle aged and live in the small town of Clinton with my husband, a registered nurse. I left my job in an insurance office three years ago when symptoms of my fibromyalgia syndrome became too severe to allow me to continue. Our son is 21 and left home this fall to attend art school in west Michigan, leaving us on our own with our three cats. My father is 83 and lives four hours north of here. I was raised on a dairy farm where we grew or raised all our own fruits, vegetables, meat and poultry. I can't think of a single female relative in the area who wasn't completely interested in food preparation and preservation. My illness has robbed my of most of my stamina, but I've learned to compensate with some success. I try to incorporate a lot of fruits, vegetables and whole grains into our diet, with varying degrees of success in limiting foods containing a lot of sugar, salt and saturated fats.
