Frozen River of Chocolate Forms After German Factory Malfunctions
Cold temperatures combined with sticky candy to make quite the mess.

Yes, we know… Tragic.
The local fire department a western German town was put to the test on Tuesday, when a tank at the DreiMeister chocolate factory malfunctioned, spilling chocolate out the doors and down the street.
About 2,200 pounds of molten chocolate escaped the factory in Werl, hardening once it hit the cold ground. The Soester-Anzeiger, which reported on the spill from Germany, referred to it as “Werl’s biggest chocolate bar.”
It took 25 firefighters until about 10 p.m. to clear the mess away using shovels, hot water and blowtorches. Particularly tricky was the fine film of fat leftover, which would have been a slipping hazard if left in place.
Fortunately for Germans, there will be more than enough chocolate this Christmas. The factory sprung back to life on Wednesday, just in time to fill stockings with pralinen und schokoladentaler for the holidays.
