Say Hello (Again) to the $1,000 Bagel

The gold-flecked sandwich is available only at the Westin in Times Square.

We’re not sure why it existed in the first place (I mean, why not), but the $1,000 bagel is back, baby, and this time it’s got a social conscience.

First introduced in 2007, the bagel features Alba white truffle cream cheese and goji berry-infused Riesling jelly, and is topped off with tasteless gold leaf.

So if you’re looking for what may be the most luxurious breakfast sandwich of your life, you’ll be able to find it at the Westin in Times Square from November 1st until December 15th. Make sure to place your order at least 24 hours in advance. This time around, all of the proceeds from the sale of the bagel will go to the Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen.

New Yorkers love a good bagel almost as much as New Yorkers love New York (and car horns). New Yorkers also pay an average rent of $4.98 per square foot, so, odds are, they love that good bagel partly because it’s a simple, affordable pleasure. New Yorkers also hate Times Square. So if a $1,000 bagel served in a Times Square hotel is for anyone, it’s certainly not for New Yorkers.

But, hey, we love conspicuous consumption just as much as the next guy (my Gucci logo is bigger than yours), so if they’re willing to trade us a free bagel for some Insta exposure, we will happily chow down.
