2 Boil Water

In a large pot, bring all 4 quarts of water to a roaring boil.

3 Add Salt & Rice

Add rice and salt to the water, stirring occasionally. Leave until the rice is al dente (chewy and firm but not hard), and then remove from the heat.

TIP
Different rice varieties have different cooking times. Long grain white/brown rice takes about 15-20 minutes, while short grain brown rice takes about 30-40 minutes.Start checking your rice early to be sure it doesn’t overcook.

4 Drain

When your rice is the perfect texture, pour it into a strainer and drain out the water. If you're worried about it overcooking, you can rinse the rice, while it's in the strainer, with water.
