  • Step 1.
  • Soak urad dal in water for 10-15 minutes.
  • Step 2.
  • Drain and cook urad dal with salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup water till just done.
  • Step 3.
  • Take care that the dal does not get overcooked and each grain remains separate.
  • Step 4.
  • Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger and onions and saute till fragrant. Chop green chillies and add along with red chilli powder, tomatoes and saute.
  • Step 5.
  • Drain dal and add and mix gently. Adjust salt and mix.
  • Step 6.
  • Chop coriander leaves and add and mix well. You can add lemon juice if you wish. Serve hot.
