  2. Soak urad dal in water for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Step 2.
  4. Drain and cook urad dal with salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup water till just done.
  5. Step 3.
  6. Take care that the dal does not get overcooked and each grain remains separate.
  7. Step 4.
  8. Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger and onions and saute till fragrant. Chop green chillies and add along with red chilli powder, tomatoes and saute.
  9. Step 5.
  10. Drain dal and add and mix gently. Adjust salt and mix.
  11. Step 6.
  12. Chop coriander leaves and add and mix well. You can add lemon juice if you wish. Serve hot.
