Baked Cinnamon Apples (Crock Pot)

"This is a super rich indulgence that is very much like the middle of an apple pie. A great recipe for those apples that are sitting in your fridge that nobody wants to eat. Prep time includes time to peel the apples by hand (but you don't have to peel them if you don't want to). Enjoy!"

 1. Made this the other night to use up some apples, and couldn't have been more delighted with the results. Tweaked a few things, and hubby and I both loved it to pieces. In fact, we just got finished with some leftovers.

I used about 9 apples of varying types--a golden delicious, a couple of Macs, a Gala or two, and some others thrown in for good measure. Peeled most of them before slicing, but left one or two alone. Used no white sugar at all and 3/4 cup DARK brown, which was delicious but still a tad sweet. Might use a bit less next time. Used 1 Tblsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, 1/8 tsp. ginger, 1/8 tsp. allspice, because we love flavorful things. Used 3 Tblsp. butter made w/ olive oil & sea salt. Used regular, dark raisins. Also tossed the apple slices & raisins with a couple of splashes of brandy before coating them with the dry ingredients, which I whisked together in a small bowl first to make sure everything was evenly distributed. Used my 5-qt. slow cooker, on high for awhile and then switched to low, and the apples were perfect in about 3 hours' time--done but not mush. (The house smelled amazing.) Served topped with reduced fat vanilla ice cream, which melted beautifully over the warm apples. HEAVEN! This will be my go-to recipe from now on whenever I have apples to be used. Easy and delicious. What's not to like? :)

 2. I made this with 1/2 cup of sugar and no raisins. Makes a perfect sidedish for stuffed porkchops or pork loin. Yummy ??

 3. Way to sweet for me and the apples turned out mushy. Next time, I will greatly reduce the sugar and will leave the peels on and only cut them in halves or quarters.

 4. I brought these for yesterdays July 4th party. Nothing like American apple pie (without the crust) for a July 4 party. I doubled the recipe for about 15 people and there were NO left overs. Everyone LOVED them and was the only dish that didn't have left overs. They were delicious and I am so glad I brought them. I had to add a link on my facebook page so my friends and family could have the recipe. HIGHLY recommend this recipe.

 5. This was delicious. I did make some tweaks similar to other reviewer suggestions. I only had 5 apples, so I only used 1/4 cup packed brown sugar. I also added 1/3 cup apple cider. I didn't have any cornstarch so I added 1 tablespoon of instant tapioca. Cook time was 1 hr, 25 min. I used Courtland apples that I sliced into about 1.5" wedges with an apple corer/slicer. They were soft, but not mushy.

I'm a single mother from NJ and I am a bake-a-holic. I love to bake ANYTHING; from cakes to cupcakes and cookies to bars, I really love it. I love creating new recipes or tweaking ones that I have to my own tastes. I have a HUGE number of 'bake'books and recipe cards that I have collected through the years. It wasn't until I was looking for a recipe (that I could ONLY find on Zaar, mind you)that I got completely hooked! We were getting SO tired of the same old baked chicken or spaghetti with tomato sauce from a jar. But now, with all these new recipes in my cookbooks, we're trying new (and TASTY!!!) things every day. I am SOOOO excited to finally have a place to put ALL my favorite recipes, as well as pick up some new ones. My most exciting discovery on Zaar was the crock-pot/slow-cooker recipes! We never used a crock-pot when I was growing up and I never understood why - I thought it was so easy, dump everything in before you leave for work and when you get home your dinner is ready and your house smells great (or so I've been told). But then I found out that 'back when I was growing up', there weren't that many recipes for crock-pots. But now that I found pages and PAGES of recipes on the Zaar, I'm investing in a crock-pot! Thanks to all of you who have posted FANTASTIC recipes! Other then that, I love doing crafts, mostly cross-stitching/embroidery and especially holiday crafts. I spend as much time as I possibly can with my son and he's usually the one helping me to make all my baking.
