Baked Macaroni

"I suggested using a glass dish because you can see how brown the casserole is getting (and brown is a good thing). My family loves the crispy sides and topping."

directions

  • Mix together the flour, 1/4 cup butter and the milk.
  • Add cheese chunks and allow to melt (continually stirring and watching so cheese does not burn).
  • Add the salt and pepper.
  • Combine the ziti and cheese sauce.
  • Put into casserole dish (I use glass) which has been well buttered with the remaining 1/4 stick of butter (use it all).
  • Mix Ritz with enough butter to moisten the crackers (amount is entirely up to you, but make enough to cover the casserole completely) The more the better.
  • Bake@ 350 degrees for approximately1 hour.
  • Serve immediately.

  1. I did not like this recipe-very over rated!I was so embarassed when I took this to the Thankgiving party today. I cooked it last night and it dried out when I heated it up. Way to dry. I want a good creamy, cheesy macaroni about like wife saver. Help!! In need of one before my Thankgiving dinner. The other macaroni n cheese looked so good today, nobody touched mine, except for my husband, who tried to make me feel better. Even my 4 year old ate the other. The crackers made it even drier. I think they need even more butter, but that might make them soggy.

  2. Mmmm Mmmm Good!!! This is awesome! One of the ultimate comfort foods from my childhood. This is a keeper! Thanks Doj!

  3. We liked this alot. I left off the ritz crackers and it was fine. Some Mac & Cheese recipes have too many extras, this is just a simple baked dish, perfect for any meal.

  4. This recipe is great! I made it for the Superbowl and everyone loved it. My daughter said I need to make it again and again. I followed the recipe exactly except I added extra cubes of Velveeta spread out through it when I added it to the baking dish. Made it really cheesy. Awesome! Thanks, Needa/OH

  5. I used pasta machine macaroni with this recipe. It was delicious. The Ritz crackers are the magic ingredient!!! Do not try to substitute Saltines, too salty and not sweet tasting. (Someone I know tried it that way and said she threw it out!!)
