Baked Pork Chops and Apples

"I found this in a pamphlet from the orchard (about Maryland apple orchards) a few years ago when we were picking apples. It is one of the tastiest things I have ever made!"

Questions & Replies

  1. Would like to be able to print the recipe(s) without the nutritional value box wasting ink. Is that possible, please. Thank you.

  2. I added some broth to the dish while it baked two thick pork chops for 1 hour. Nice and Teneder and Delicious !

  3. My pork chaps were thick cut. I followed recipe to the letter. Cooking for 1 and 1/2 hours, they were very dry. Is this a mistake on the cooking time?

  4. What thickness are the chops and are they boneless?

  1. ok, my husband hates pork chops. really. i make them occasionally because i like them and i need variety. i made these and he actually said "these are good" . you must understand this is a compliment above all measure. great recipe!!!

  2. Just made this for the first time. Took the advise of others and seasoned chops with garlic salt, pepper and dried rosemary. I used thick boneless pork chops and cooked for the 1 1/2 hours and it was awesome!!! Best pork chops I have ever had and husband loved them too! Served them with cheddar au gratin potatoes and the meal was a hit!

  3. EXCELLENT!! Not only does it taste amazing but my house smells wonderful too (always a bonus!). I added 1/4 cup apple juice at the bottom of the baking dish rather then greasing it. I also seasoned the pork chops with seasoned salt & rosemary prior to searing. I had very very thick chops so I cut them in half they were probably 1/2" thick. Cooked @ 350 for 40 minutes and they were a little dry, think I'll drop it down to 30. Can't wait until fall to pick fresh apples.

  4. This was good. DH said it was a keeper and by BIL seemed to like it too - his plate was clean! Even my 11 month old liked it. I'll make it again but I think I'll add a bit of apple juice to the casserole dish just to add a bit more flavor. I did this according to the recipe except I only baked for 1 hour. My porkchops were boneless and about 3/4 inch. I served with baked potato, broccoli, carrots, and french bread. Thanks for a good recipe!

  5. So delicious. I didn't veer from the recipe except I used my ovenproof skillet to brown my chops then removed them and put the granny smith apple slices right on the cooked butter and pork bits. I then sprinkled the apples with the brown sugar cinnamon mixture reserving about 2 tspns. Placed the pork chops on the apples and sprinkled the remaining sugar mixture on top of the chops. My house smelled heavenly and my husband and I agreed they were the best pork chops we ever had. Yummmmm.

Tweaks

  1. Verrrry good. I used splenda blend brown sugar and apple pie spice instead of cinnamon, and I only baked it for an hour. I also put the sugar and spices in a baggie and tossed the apples rather than sprinkling the sugar over them - other than that I left everything as is. Hubby and I both give it 5 stars and will definatly make it again. Thanks for posting.

  2. You can season the pork to your liking, we added salt, garlic and onion powder, and sage.(we did this before browning)

  3. I added a couple tbs. of cornstarch mixed with about 2/3 cup cold water and poured it over the apples, made a wonderful sauce when finished. Also only baked it for 45 mins.

  4. I thought this was pretty good and my husband thought it was okay. I will make it again because it is easy and great for me...I'm following Weight Watchers. I seasoned the chops with salt, pepper & a little garlic powder before browning. I also subbed less canola oil for the butter. Thanks for this good weeknight meal!
