Tangy Baked Ziti

"I'm not a big fan of ricotta, so when I found this recipe, I had to try it. I'm so glad I did! While not a pronounced flavor, the sour cream adds a creaminess to the recipe. A big hit with my picky son! I leave out the ground beef for my vegetarian DH."

  1. I rated this as one star instead of the 2 stars it deserves so unsuspecting people who want to make a classic baked ziti won't be fooled by this recipe's high rating. This is NOT an authentic Italian baked ziti. While the sour cream is thinner and creamier, it lends a sourer taste than the sweet cream of ricotta. It is more like a stroganoff flavor rather than a classic Italian one.

  2. I have tried this recipe twice... once as written, and once with the addition of more seasonings. As written, I have to rate it as 4 stars. It is a good base, but the lack of seasonings leaves the meat sauce extremely bland, in my humble opinion. When I tweaked the recipe, I added minced garlic, Lawry's seasoning salt, garlic & onion powder, Italian seasonings, sage, & a dash of cayenne pepper. Much more flavorful the second go-round! Still a great go-to recipe though.

  3. We thought this was a great recipe. I liked the addition of sour cream in place of the ricotta. We like the ricotta but don't always have it on hand so this is a nice replacement when in need. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us, we we make again.

  4. So I have been making another baked ziti recipe that I wasn't the biggest fan of until tonight. While at the grocery store I found this recipe on my cell phone through an app for a different website and decided to try it. So glad I did. This was delicious. Made it almost exactly the same except added minced garlic to the mean and onion while it browned and increased the cheese a lot since we LOVE cheese. Great flavor and so tasty.

  5. Just got done eating. Wow! Delicious, indeed. I added 2 things not on recipe. Added fresh garlic to ground beef and onions while cooking and approx 1 lb fresh mushrooms, in big chunks to the sauce while it cooked. Scrumptious! Will make this for guests next time. Tried it out on hubby and myself and 2 thumbs up from us both. Thanks for sharing Connie!

  1. This was a delicious version of baked ziti! I added a little extra cheese (b/c we like it that way) and used ground sausage instead of beef. I really liked the different flavor of the sour cream and will probably use this baked ziti recipe from now on, thank you for sharing!

  2. I have made this recipe several times. I use 1 lb of ground Italian sausage in place of the ground beef and also have added mushrooms and green peppers. Yummy and very easy! Thanks.

  3. Excellent recipe. My 3 year old loved it. Very easy to make as this was my first trial run before my hubby comes back from IRAQ. This is one of his favorite dishes and I'm sure he'll love this recipe. I don't eat beef or pork, so I used ground turkey instead.

  4. This is an awesome recipe! I use italian sausage in place of the ground beef and spice up the sauce with italian seasoning, thyme, basil, oregano, and a little bit of sugar.
