- 2 cups flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1⁄4 cup shortening
- 1 cup water
directions
- Combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or knives.
- Add water.
- Knead about a dozen times on floured surface.
- Flatten in a circle to ½ thickness.
- Melt 2 tablespoons shortening in a frying pan.
- When shortening is hot, add dough and fry until browned.
- Slide bannock onto a clean towel or rag.
- Add another 2 tablespoons more shortening.
- Flip the bannock onto the pan and cook the other side.
