Basic Rolls

"These are very basic rolls from an old Betty Crocker cookbook. These can also be made into bread sticks or pizza dough! I use Fat free Butter instead of the oil and they still come out great."

  • 1 (1/4 ounce) package yeast (regular or fast-acting)
  • 1 13 cups warm water (105 to 115 degrees)
  • 3 - 3 18 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (or butter, if you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt (omit if using self-rising flour)
  • 1 egg white, slightly beaten

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in 1 cup of flour, the oil (or butter), honey and 1 teaspoon salt. Beat until smooth.
  • Stir in remaining flour, scraping dough from side of bowl, until soft dough forms.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Divide dough in 24 equal parts. Roll dough into tiny balls (or form into ropes if you desire sticks.).
  • Brush the dough with the egg white.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes.
