Blueberry Crumb Pie

"After looking around for this recipe and not finding it, I kind of adapted one on my own. It comes out pretty and delicious and a dollop of Cool Whip on top is lovely."

 1. Salted or unsalted butter?

 2. Can frozen berries be used? If so should I thaw ?

 1. This was easier to make than I had thought. I couldn't find fresh blueberries at the grocery store so I bought the kind in a can...and it still came out delicious! It only took a few minutes to whip it together and the oven did the rest:)

 2. This pie was AMAZING! I paired it with a recipe to make homemade pie crust. I will definitely be making it again. It wasn't to heavy/sugary and still tasted delicious!

 3. This was so easy to make and is delicious! We loved it!

 4. This recipe was super simple and tasty!!! I have never made a blueberry pie so I was a little nervous but this turned out amazing! I would use a little less blueberries next time and add a bit more crumble because I like the crunchy part!! But overall this pie tastes great and had a wonderful flavor! Super delicious and super simple. Perfect recipe! Thank you!

 5. This was my first time making a fresh blueberry pie and it was fantastic! I did increase the cooking time by about 25 mins and it came out perfect. The crust did not overcook with the additional baking time, and the pie was set perfectly when cut into slices. The crumb topping was great, such a wonderful change from the usual 2 crust fruit pies. Served with vanilla ice cream :)

Tweaks

 1. Great pie, served it warm with vanilla ice cream. Thanks for the recipe. Made this pie again but used blackberries in place of the blueberries, still 5 star.

 2. I made this last week and it was wonderful. Very simple and quick to make, which is good for those hectic times. I used lemon juice and substituted vanilla powder for the cinnamon. I used a bit more than the 4 cups of blueberries and used a frozen pre-made pie crust. Mine was not a deep shell--so I ended up with 2 pies--which turned out great as I sent one home with my mother in law. Oh, I did need to increase the crumb topping to cover both pies. Great recipe--one I will make whenever we're looking for blueberry pie. Thanks for posting.

 3. I made this for a bbq dessert, and there was not a single piece left. Do keep an eye on the crumb topping, as it will brown a little quicker and you don't want to burn that yummy topping! Will definitely make this again, although next time I might try substituting huckleberries instead of blueberries, as they are in season here! Thanks for the fantastic dessert!

I live in Pa (outside of Philadelphia) and cooking, baking, cross-stitching and reading are my hobbies.

I collect cookbooks and cookie stamps/cutters and have a pretty big collection of both. I am also a fan of all things Amish, so I have quite a collection of things picked up in Reading, Lancaster and surrounding areas here in Pennsylvania.

I have 4 kids, who are the loves of my life and cooking for them and my husband keeps me on my toes! ;)

We bought an ice cream parlor in March 04 and it's been quite an experience!

Note: I love getting feedback on my recipes; all I ask is that you actually *make* them before reviewing them.

Also, if you make changes or substitutions, I'd love to see your suggestions and/or comments, but I'd appreciate no rating at all if it's not made as posted. Too many recipe reviews state margarine subbed for butter (if I list butter, it's REAL butter), different spices, low-fat ingredients, whole wheat flour instead of white, etc. The recipes will not work/taste as intended, so it's really not fair to rate them as such.

I'd also really appreciate it if you refrain from rating a recipe if you overcook or overbake it or it you don't refrigerate or store as listed.

I, of course, will adhere to the above when rating recipes, too!

Thanks and have a great day!

My Rating System:

***** A delicious recipe that was thoroughly enjoyed. It has excellent, detailed directions and is perfect as is. If a dish is especially easy, and I'm on the fence, I will give it 5* for ease even if it's very good instead of great. Something I will definitely make again.

**** Excellent recipe but confusing directions that I will make again in my own less confusing way OR Very good recipe that I'll probably make again if I find the time!

*** Good/OK recipe but probably not something I would make again OR Very Good recipe that doesn't have clear, detailed directions.

** Recipe was edible but not really enjoyed and will not be made again. Work involved not a good trade-off for the end result.

* Not edible and probably an error in the recipe. I feel that I pick recipes with ingredients our family likes, so in my opinion, there's an error somewhere. If there's a chance I made the error, I won't rate the recipe. ;)
