Bourbon Manhattan - a Classic Cocktail

"This is the cocktail for all of you who aren't martini drinkers. The addition of just a little cherry juice makes for a very smooth drink."

 1. I take one cup of sweet vermouth and one cup of dry vermouth, mix them together and put in a fancy decanter on the bar. Makes a perfect Mahatten for me and is not too sweet. Will have to get some cherries from Trader Joe's next time I'm there.

 2. It's good, but definitely use good cherries, not maraschino. I used dark morello cherries from Trader Joes. Maraschino are sickeningly sweet!

 3. I "mixed" this up a bit by using Luxardo cherries and half sweet Vermouth and half dry Vermouth, garnished with Lemon twist.Use a good Bourbon....the better your ingredients are, the better your finished drink. If you like Rye whiskey use it instead of the Bourbon. You will then have a classic Manhatten. Cocktail recipes are good places to start, but most find it's all about personal taste preferences. Cheers !

 4. Juice from the jar? Really? Unless you're using Luxardo cherries I'd forgo the almond flavoring in the mass produced maraschinos. And you forgot the essential orange flavor. My own variation uses Fee Brothers Aromatic bitters, a wash of Luxardo Marschino liquor and a good inch or so of orange peel or a dash of orange bitters. The Fee Brothers adds a subtle hint of cinnamon.

 5. I really enjoyed this cocktail, it's a very good recipe. What more can I say...yum! Made for Bargain Basement tag game and will definately be making these again! Thanks for sharing Alan.

I recently celebrated my 19th anniversary living in SW Florida. I moved here from Massachusetts, just north of Boston. As much as I miss family back home, I truly love living here - the beaches, the tropical beauty, the people, and the weather (except the hurricanes!). Everyday is just another day in Paradise. I work at the new international airport here in Fort Myers. I have an opportunity to meet many different and interesting people from around the world. I've had an interest in cooking since I was a little boy, following my grandmother around the kitchen. Since I wasn't blessed with any artistic or musical talent, I think cooking was my way of being creative. My passion is my family and friends. My second passion is cooking for them. My favorite way to entertain is informally...brunches, cookouts, and small dinner parties. Just relaxing, enjoying each other's company, some good food and drink, and a little fun are the only rules of the house.
