“While you can cook these straight away after mixing in the ingredients it does taste better if you let the mixture sit for an hour. I normally cover the top of the mixing bowl and leave it in the fridge. I would almost say it ferments slightly so don't be alarmed. Warning - eating the raw mixture may taste really good but not in large quantities as the bran really works.”

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Cream the egg and sugar.
  2. Add the oil, vanilla and milk. Beat well.
  3. Add the flour, salt , bran and bicarbonate of soda. Mix.
  4. Add the raisins.
  5. Leave to stand overnight.
  6. Stir in the morning.
  7. Bake at 180C for 20 minutes.
  8. Variations: Add grated carrots, grated apple or nuts You can add apple puree in place of half of the milk.
