  • 4 medium apples
  • 4 -5 wooden sticks
  • 65 vanilla caramels
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon water

  • Wash and dry apples.
  • Insert a wooden stick into the stem of each apple. Microwave method: Unwrap caramels and place in a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Add water.
  • Microwave on high for three minutes, stirring after two minutes for a smooth sauce. Let mixture stand one minute for coating to thicken slightly.
  • Coat apples with sauce by dipping apples into hot caramel sauce. Remove excess caramel from bottom of apples and place on greased waxed paper.
  • Serve immediately or store in refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Conventional method: Wash and dry apples.

  • Melt caramels with water over low heat, stirring frequently.
  • Let mixture stand for one minute for coating to thicken slightly.
  • Coat apples with sauce by dipping apples into hot caramel sauce. Remove excess caramel from bottom of apples and place on greased waxed paper.
  • Serve immediately or store in refrigerator for up to 2 days.

  1. unwrap 64 caramels, no way, no finger nails. I do have a candy thermometer. can I use this?
     
  2. Really good. I did these with my son one afternoon. He loved them. Made them in a saucepan instead of the microwave.
     
  3. I did mine in the saucepan, and I was glad I did, because the caramel cooled quickly and I thought it would be hard to get all the apples coated the way you want and onto the wax paper unless you kept the caramel heated. Anyway, they were great, and I served them at my daughter's birthday party and the kids liked them better than cake!
