Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole II

"My original Recipe #221110 is very simple and is a hit with kids especially, but honestly it is not my favorite. I have issues with the flavor of processed cheese (think Cheez Whiz, Velveeta, etc). So I came up with this alternative, which is just as easy as the original, and now I enjoy it too!"

  1. This was pretty good. I cut the recipe in half, and added cooked onion & pepper to the beef mixture. I couldn't really detect any cheese in the meat mixture so next time I might add more. I also sprinkled some freshly chopped tomato over top of the fries as I was adding the cheese to melt over top. My husband requested that I make it again- thanks for posting the recipe.

  2. This is clever and a nice kid casserole. I made this as written. When I added the cheese to the beef mixture, it turned very dry and sticky. I then stirred in some milk and some generous squirts of ketchup. That moistened it up nicely, plus the ketchup added some more "burgerish" flavor. My kids liked the "cheese fries" on the top the best. Thanx for sharing.

I was born in Chicago, IL and have lived in the area all my life. I love to cook and plan meals and always have. As a child I would watch Julia Childs on TV every day (she came on right after Mr. Rogers) and I have been interested in cooking ever since. Now that I have a family I enjoy the quick and easy recipes just as much as the more intricate ones. I didn't mind putting in the extra time and effort when I only cooked recreationally. I still like to do that sometimes, but for the day-to-day chore of cooking (and sometimes it is a chore) I like the option of fast and simple. I enjoy trying new recipes and sharing favorites of mine. I have found that sometimes the most unlikely sounding ones turn out to be the best! I try to always review the recipes I try because I know how much I enjoy getting that feedback myself. Even when it is not necessarily positive because sometimes suggestions help me tweak things and make them better!
