Cheesy Turkey Burger

"This burger is tasty and the shredded cheese gives it a great flavor. I've used cheddar cheese, co-jack, or a Mexican cheese mixture. You may need more breadcrumbs, depending on how moist your turkey is. I like to serve this with Veganaise or mayo on the side."

  1. This is the easiest most wonderful way to kick your Turkey Burger up a notch. I used Italian Breadcrumbs and mozarella cheese because my pantry and refrigerator made me :) It turned out delicious!

  2. I love this burger! I added fresh minced onions and garlic and didn't put celery seed. I used mozzarella cheese and the burgers were delish and very easy!

  3. I was afraid of using ground turkey as I've only ever had it as a beef substitute and I've never liked it. I decided to try it as I am trying to add variety and the turkey was on sale. I grilled it on the George Foreman grill and it was great. I think my family has been won over. I used mozzerella cheese and served it with a bit more cheese on top and some marinara sauce. Its a keeper, thank you.

  4. Very tasty burgers! Loved the cheese in them!! I used low-fat mozzarella. Can't wait to try them on the BBQ! Thanks PdxBarb!

  5. These turkey burgers were amazing! They were both juicy and flavorful. I didn’t change anything in the recipe, and I got exactly 6 burgers. Since I pan fried them, it just took a couple less minutes to cook per side.

Tweaks

  1. I used 99% lean turkey which is really dry so I added an egg and doubled the cheese. Great recipe

  2. Sat. 8/04 - I had to convince my husband to let me follow this recipe rather than making the patties from ground turkey "straight" which is always too dry and bland for my taste. We both were thrilled with the results. Delicious moist burgers. Yum!! I did make a small change in substituting Lawry's seasoning salt for the oregano and celery seed. I added just a shake or two of garlic powder and onion powder along with the worcestershire sauce. I used panko style crumbs and probably a little less than 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar. I recommend grilling rather than pan frying. The grill really boosts the flavor. Thanks PdxBarb!!! Update 8/24: My husband could eat these turkey burgers everyday. He's really hooked on these burgers. I usually crave variety, but I agree with him. I double the recipe and make 10 burgers (3 and 3/4 ounces each) and we eat them for a few days. They're great!

  3. So good! These were very easy to make and they tasted delicious! I used onion salt instead of onion powder and fried in a pan. I'm trying to eat healthier and this recipe makes it easy! Thanks for sharing, I'll be making these again!

I live in beautiful Portland Oregon with my partner. I try to live frugally and eat healthy. I cook a lot and bake a lot. Over the last 2-3 years I've read a lot on diet, nutrition, healthy eating and healthy living. I've slowly changed over to non-toxic hand soap, toothpaste, and cleaning supplies. I also don't buy things with high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners or colors or any type of MSG. We eat mostly whole wheat breads and no cookies or donuts. I gave up drinking diet anything and colas of all sorts on May 25, 2006. I have two current favorite cookbooks. One is called "Vegan with a Vengeance" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and the other is "Table for Two" by Joanne Stepaniak. From VwaV I found a great way to make brussels sprouts, which before I could never stand. Also pizza sauce, a great pizza dough, a chickpea broccoli casserole and wonderful peanut butter oatmeal cookies. From Table for Two, I got the 1000 island dressing recipe I use for salad dressing. Also a non dairy potato corn chowder.
