Ingredients: 2 lbs hamburger; 1 large onion, chopped; 2 (15 ounce) cans tomatoes, crushed; 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste; 1 (29 ounce) can dark red kidney beans; 1 (29 ounce) can light kidney beans; 1 stalk celery, chopped; 2 tablespoons chili powder; 2 teaspoons cumin; 1 (3 ounce) can minced green chilies; 2 cups water; 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced

ingredients

2 lbs hamburger
1 large onion, chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans tomatoes, crushed
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (29 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
1 (29 ounce) can light kidney beans
1 stalk celery, chopped
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons cumin
1 (3 ounce) can minced green chilies
2 cups water
2 large potatoes, peeled and diced

directions

Brown hamburger and onions. Salt and pepper to taste. Put into large stew pot.
Add in all remaining ingredients and stir well. Cook over medium heat about an hour or until potatoes are tender. Add water occansionally if needed.

This is the way I have ate chili my whole life. It's how it was made by my Mom & it was also a huge hit in my grandparents cafe-always a customer favorite on their menu. It's all I know as far as chili is concerned. Outstanding recipe! My chili varies from one prep to the next; I love to add new things & modify it according to my mood & cravings, but one thing that never changes is that the potatoes always make it in the pot! :)

I've been making this exact same recipe for a long time. Except I use a large can of Tomato Juice instead of Tomato paste and water. Which i guess pretty much turns out to be the same thing. I love German Chili, it is the only way that I make it. In fact my BF has never liked chili until I made this recipe. Love it, Love it, Love it!!!
