- 1⁄2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1⁄2 cup cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped drained and rinsed sauerkraut
- 1 1⁄3 cups water

SOUR CREAM FROSTING
- 1 (6 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1⁄2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups powdered sugar
directions
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time and beat well.
- Add vanilla.
- Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Add alternately with 1 1/3 cups water.
- Fold in sauerkraut.
- Bake in greased 9x13 inch pan 35 to 45 minutes at 325 degrees.
- Frost with Sour Cream Frosting.
- Melt together chips and butter over low heat.
- Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, vanilla and enough powdered sugar to spread well.
