Crispy Buttermilk Chicken

ingredients
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon thyme, dried
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, blend
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 whole chicken, cut up
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 4 cups oil, for frying
directions
- In a bowl, blend first 4 ingredients. In a resealable plastic bag, combine 1/2 the seasoning mixture, buttermilk, and chicken. Let marinate at least an hour.
- In a seperate plastic bag, blend flour and remaining seasoning mixture. Remove chicken from marinade, and discard marinade. In batches, coat chicken in flour mixture.
- In deep fryer, heat oil to 350 degrees and fry the chicken in batches for about 15 minutes.

Flavourful very good although I did change this somewhat to use what I had on hand. As a preference I changed the thyme to dried marjoram and instead of buttermilk I substituted a little Balkan yogurt, heavy cream & bit of lemon juice in the cream first for a couple minutes. I used garlic salt as that is what I had and omitted the salt. I would make this again using marjoram. Made for Ramadan Tag 2010.
