"This is a great way to make split pea soup - just let it cook itself all day long. I like the addition of rice in this recipe."

 1. This is definitely a bit different than my normal split pea soup! I guess that's why we try new recipes , right? For it to be different! :) I wasn't sure about the addition of the rice , but for me , it grows on you as you eat it. I actually really enjoyed it!! For some reason I could REALLY taste the Thyme , so I would cut back a bit on that , I don't know why it was such a strong flavor , 1/2 tsp isn't all that much when you consider the other amounts of ingredients. Anyway , it goes together in a snap , and I love that the crock pot does all the work! Thank you for posting Chris!!

 2. Every Thursday night a group of us get together over a dinner that one of the "Thirsty Night Crew" prepares. We've been doing this for years and last night was my turn. Working from home means that I have to come up with something easy to cook, but delicious...lest I incur the wrath from the Crew. We had some leftover ham in the fridge, so I tried this recipe, substituting 1 cup of h2o with a cup of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc). It was a huge success and no leftovers were to be found. This is a discriminating group, however not snobby, and they loved the touch of rice in mix. I would highly recommend this for anyone who loves cooking with their crock pot, especially during the cold winter months. Chris really did me a big favor by posting this recipe. All kudos to him !

I live in the Kansas City area and have many hobbies including cooking, reading and spending time with my husband and two children who are very active in sports now. I also have an eBay business which is a fun hobby that makes a little extra money! My interest in cooking focuses on making healthy dishes that are more satisfying than the higher fat and higher sugar versions. If I had a month off with no responsibilities, I would spend it at a luxury spa.
