"You just have to love Gingerbread Men. They are great fun to make. Grandkids and I use make them every Christmas season when they were younger. And shorter."

directions

  • In a large bowl, cream margarine and sugar til smooth.
  • Stir in, molasses and egg yolk.
  • Combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg; blend into the molasses mix.
  • til smooth.
  • Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350%.
  • On lightly floured surface, roll the dough to 1/4 thickness.
  • Cut into desired shapes.
  • Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 8- 10 minutes.
  • Remove and cool.
  • Frost and decorate.
  • At Easter, for an added surprise, I like to dip them in melted chocolate and then decorate.

  1. I am giving this 5 stars because it makes perfectly soft chewy cookies, not hard crunchy ones. I baked them for the full 10 minutes and followed the recipe exactly. The only thing I would change is the amount of cloves - I agree with those who say it's too much cloves. Thanks for the great recipe Myrna 2!
     
  2. So perfect and delicious! I added 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup applesauce.
     
  3. I had to add flour because the dough was really sticky but these are really good!!
     
  4. These were the perfect texture not too hard not too soft just right! The spices were just right too.Only thing was I found the dough to be too dry so I decided to another egg yolk.I found that I had to work quickly, as the dough becomes very crumbly and breaks after being out of the fridge too long..Thanks they were very yummy and me and my little girl enjoyed making them!

Well I have to say these were sooo much fun, had some girl friends in and we made the ugliest ginerbread men you have ever seen!! hahaha! you would not believe the fun we had but none of us are great on the decorating, so we called them the attack of the grining gingerbread people, Thanks for a fun evening!!!

I'm 65 years old and have been cooking since I was 10. My first meal was Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. My mother talked me through everything. She hated to cook. I'm completely the opposite, I love to cook and try different things. been married for 42 years and have 3 kids. Two girls and a boy, four grandchildren that I spoil rotten. Had a stroke 1 year ago but it's not stopping me. My second love is camping.
