  1. Where do you find nonfat dry milk powder with no sugar in it? All the brands I have looked at have sugar. What brand did you use to make this? Thanks, Marie

  5. I've never heard of a 1 ounce package of pudding mix. Is this correct? Did you guys use a whole small box of pudding or just one ounce of the stuff? I'm planning to make this for a Christmas gift.

  1. This recipe is fantastic! Like several others, I had trouble with the mix clumping when I mixed it with hot water. The solution is to mix the powder with COLD water first and then heat it up after mixing!! This has to do with the pudding mix.

  2. This taste really great. Not weak and bland like some. You can't tell it is sugar free. The pudding helps it to not be watery. I want to try chocolate pudding to see if it makes it even more chocolately! This will become a winter stable in our home.

  3. LOVE this...rich and creamy. The secret is to stir it a lot before and during drinking. Will make an excellent Christmas gift in a pretty jar for my diabetic dad.

  4. Made some at the beginning of the holidays... and almost none left!! That's how good it is!! :) Thanks!

  5. Oh, man! This is wonderful! It's definately hot chocolate weather here in Pittsburgh and figured to make a big batch of the kind my mom used to make when I was a kid. I saw the calories on her recipe, and went looking for a healthier version. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this terrific alternative! I used FF/SF chocolate pudding mix and I did add a bag of mini marshmallows to it. I tripled the recipe and I know it will be gone in a flash! This is rich, creamy, delicious and certainly takes care of my chocolate cravings! Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!

Tweaks

  1. I also used Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa powder but they were out of Fat Free Sugar Free Vanilla instant pudding so I tried a white chocolate sugar free fat free and it was awesome. Looking forward to adding protein as my Bariatric surgery happens soon

  2. I tweaked this recipe to be vegan, and I'm not watching sugar so I did not bother with the Splenda and sugar-free mix. I measured 3 tbsp Jell-o chocolate pudding mix, 1 cup powdered sugar, and 1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa powder into a jar. I shook it up and put about 1.5 tbsp of the mixture into maybe 9-10 oz of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, since I had to omit the powdered milk to make it vegan. I used a little whisk to mix it in before microwaving and it turned out amazingly well. I'm so excited to have a cup of this every night (:

  3. i am a post-op bariatric patient and was looking to make my own protein rich hot chocolate. i wanted something cheaper and made with better quality cocoa than the packets they market to post-ops. assuming the original recipe writer meant cocoa powder and not baking cocoa, i used ghiradelli unsweetened cocoa powder. i also replaced half of the milk with 1 1/2 c of chocolate flavored whey protein powder. it turned out great, but i have to be careful to add hot but not boiling water (boiling water curdles the whey protein) as i constantly stir.

  4. We really like this recipe. The only thing done different was we used milk instead of water. Thanks for posting.
