Feed-Me-Now Soup

"This is my equivalent of Campbell's soup, without the high sodium content and other additives. It's not fancy, but the fresh garlic packs a punch and there are hardly any dishes left over!"

  • Put the couscous, stock powder, shrimp and peas in a soup bowl.
  • Pour in the boiling water and stir briefly to dissolve the stock powder.
  • Grate the garlic directly into the soup bowl, using a fine grater.
  • Cover and let stand for five minutes.
  • Grind in some black pepper and enjoy.

  1. I used dehydrated garlic and mixed veggies. I also added a dash of hot sauce. This will be great to throw in a thermos for lunches. I look forward to experimenting with it. Thanks for sharing! Edited to add I have been making variations of this for months now. I throw any veggies, dehydrated veggies, frozen shrimp, different spices even leftover steak into a corell mug and let it sit until lunch and then heat it up. A lot healthier than our cafeteria food and delicious. The possibilities are endless.

This is a very good idea and one I'm going to try again, but next time I'll either omit the garlic or just use a sprinkle of garlic powder/salt, as the freshly grated clove just tasted way too strong and raw. I'll also use 1/2 cup less water and add some other seasonings/herbs. I would think that leftover chicken, beef, pork, etc. would also be good. Thanks for posting this, Sackville. It's a very clever recipe and I'll be having fun playing around with it.

This is a picture of me and my husband in Portugal, climbing up above the clouds with our bikes. Right now we are travelling around the world on our bicycles, so I only pop onto Zaar occasionally, when internet connections and time allow me to. If I don't reply to a message about one of my recipes, now you know why! Our trip may take several years so if it's urgent, it's probably better for you to post in the forums ;) Good food is really important to me -- I am happy to pay extra for food that I feel is produced in a sustainable and ethical way and always try to eat using seasonal produce. When we were in the UK we rarely shopped at supermarkets, trying instead to favour small producers, although we were very lucky in that we lived in London and there was lots of choice. We also were fortunate enough to have a weekly organic veg box delivered to our door, filled with so many lovely vegetables for very little money. It really opened my horizons in terms of the variety of vegetables I eat. If you're in the UK, check out Riverford for a box supplier as they're amazing!
