ingredients

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine, softened
1 egg, separated
1 ¹⁄₂ cups all-purpose flour
¹⁄₄ teaspoon salt
1 cup finely chopped filberts

directions

Heat oven to 275.
Mix sugar,margarine and egg yolk.
Stir in flour and salt.
Spread in ungreased jelly roll pan,15 1/2x10 1/2x1.
Beat egg white slightly,brush over dough.
Sprinkle filberts over top,press lightly.
Bake until golden brown,about 1 hour.
Immediately cup into bars,2x1 inch,cool.
