Filet-O-Fish

"A copycat of the Filet O fish sandwich found at the golden arches. Introduced by a franchise in Ohio to sell due to the Catholic practice of not eating meat on Fridays. For an authentic "'O-Fish" use 1/2 a slice of American cheese and rehydrated, dehydrated onion. For McDonald's style onions Add 3 parts water to 1 part dried minced onion. Allow Dehydrated Onions to hydrate for about 20 minutes or until fully rehydrated and drain."

directions

  • In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, relish, onions, salt and set aside. This is your tartar sauce.
  • Lightly grill the top of the buns.
  • Cook the fish according to the package instructions.
  • (You can bake the fish, but your sandwich will taste much more like the original if you fry it in oil).
  • Spread tartar sauce evenly on the top buns.
  • Place half a slice of cheese on the bottom buns.
  • Place the cooked fish on top of the cheese slice, and top off the sandwiches with the top bun.

  1. I'm telling you right now - do not toast the bun! Wrap it in a damp paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds. Perfect! Does anyone remember when they changed the Filet-o-Fish recipe and toasted the bun and added lettuce? Probably not because it was dreadful and didn't last long. Steam the bun. Please.

  2. This is the only thing I like at McDonalds besides the french fries. I decided to make some at home, and was glad to stumble across this recipe. Although Mrs. Pauls isn't the exact fish they use at McDonalds this was a good sandwich! We really enjoyed them along with some homemade french fries!

  3. Too good me and my three all love this thankyou for sharing your recipe. I will make this again

  4. This recipe looks great as I just love McDonald's fish sandwich! However for a more authentic taste: steam the buns, don't grill them.

  5. I really enjoyed this copy-cat recipe! It tasted just like Mc Donald's fillet of fish sandwich...the sauce was just right. I didn't fry my fillet (as was suggested) as I just didn't want the extra fat, but it still tasted spot on. Thanks for sharing!
