After 35 years of marriage this was my first made from scratch cake, and it turned out wonderful. I had some apples that we picked off our tree in August and they were still good in my fridge, so I needed something to put them in and this was perfect. Only change I made was to put 3 cups instead of 2, and wasn't sure how big or small to chop the apples so I made them in between. Made the house smell incredible. Thanks so much for this great recipe, I will certainly make this again since it was so simple to do.

Hi Shar-on, I made this cake today...what a wonderful moist cake that rose very high, and was so light and delicious, I am thinking that dissolving the soda in the buttermilk made such a big difference to the texture, it was fabulous!... and great topping BTW. This is a winning cake recipe, I highly advise anyone to try it.. thanks so much for posting Shar-on, I will make it again...Kittencal:)
