Golden Beef Stew

"This is THE only way I make my beef stew! It is very similar to the ol' Dinty Moore brand (but homemade). We like it very much. It really is very easy to make and great on a cold winter day! The gravy thickens quite nicely on its own cause you stir in the extra flour while browning the beef! I have been making this stew for more than 10 years and would love for you to try it!"

  1. This recipe SUCKED. Any person who thinks that potatoes and carrots can be completely cooked on low in 30 minutes is not savvy. The meat was tough and I'm on the third hour no carrots or potatoes cooked. Will never make again and highly DO NOT recommend these methods for something that tastes like "Dinty Moore." I am shocked at all the positive comments honestly.

  2. This was my first time ever making beef stew and it was great! Not only was it delicious, but the recipe was SO easy to make. Plus, to have everything in one pot made cleanup a breeze. I used 4 tsp oil instead of tbsp (just to make it a little less fattening), I chopped up a small onion instead of using onion flakes, and I also added 2 cloves of garlic. I sautéed the garlic and onion with the sirloin before adding the broth. This recipe was delicious. Next time I will add some frozen green beans along with the peas at the end. Thanks!

  3. I've made this recipe as written and it was pretty good! This last time I made it with a few changes: 1/2 lb. beef, 4 carrots, 2 potatoes, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 3 1/2 cups of broth, a can of diced tomatoes (undrained) and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes. I also omitted the worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and sugar. Even better than the first time I made it! Thanks for posting this yummy, comforting dish!

  4. I made the stew exactly as directed using flour (was out of Bisquick) added button mushrooms. This stew has a great flavor and consistency. Easy to make and very tasty! Definitely will keep this recipe!

  5. This is definitely not a copycat of Dinty Moore. Dinty Moore does not have peas in it. Just carrots and potatoes.

  2. This recipe was wonderful! I used flour, grated 1/2 an onion instead of the onion flakes, added a beef bouillon cube and 3 cups of water instead of the broth and it turned out beautifully. Thank you for a lovely recipe, which I will most certainly be making again :)
