  1. Done and can you say CANDY?! I didn't have any Kentucky Kernel (still weeping) so I trusted what I read here. As usual, I didn't measure anything except the cornmeal and flour, to which I added a bit more lemon pepper, salt, onion salt and italian seasoning herbs. It is important to let the salt do the work on the slices, to draw out the water because the key to getting the coating just right is moisture in the beginning. Once the slices are wet from the salt/lemon pepper, COAT in dry mix, DIP in beaten egg (I used two, which is not listed, but trust me you need the egg for a good coat), and COAT again, then fry. Coat, dip, coat, fry. Mantra!

  2. I picked this recipe because it had all the ingredients I normally have on hand. No buttermilk. Simple and delicious. I have made it a couple of times already. Sorry the review was late. Will probably make it a couple of more times before the tomatoes are gone for the year!

  3. Terrific, great, fantastic!!!! I used a mixture butter and peanut oil, as needed, in the pan to fry the slices. The lemon pepper was wondeful with the green tomato, great combination. I also liked using the addition of flour with the cornmeal. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

  4. Absolutely delicious! I added cracked black pepper. Yum! Thanks for sharing.

  5. These were very good. I actually was out of lemon pepper, so I substituted Everyday Seasoning. I was struggling to have enough cornflour/flour coating stay on the tomatoes until I read the review stating to coat, then dip in egg, then coat again. Those turned out wonderful!

Tweaks

  1. I love fried green tomatoes! I started off with this recipe exactly as its listed but unfortunately the coating didnt stick well, so I went along as other users said to dip the tomatoes in the cornmeal mixture first then in egg, and then in the cornmeal again- they came out perfectly crunchy and the coating stuck perfectly! Would definitely make again!

  2. Dipped the green tomatoes in cornmeal mix, then egg & then cornmeal mix again as per another reviewer's suggestion to get a decent batter to stick to the tomato.

After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!! I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch. We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
