Granola

"This is a recipe which believe it or not I got in the 7th grade during home ec. It is a really easy and great snack. I recommend it for all ages and also as a kid-friendly recipe. ** I have made changes to this recipe to make it easier to follow....I apologize for any confusion! Let me know if it happens again!"

  • Pour oatmeal into a glass microwaveable dish and cook for two minutes; stirring once. (YES microwave the oats! I'm not sure why, but this is how I learned to do it in my 7th grade home ec class and it has worked for me every time).
  • Combine all other ingredients into a bowl.
  • Add in oatmeal.
  • Stir until well blended.
  • To finish, use either the microwave or oven. Both methods are listed below --
  • Microwave method: Pour mixture into a glass dish and microwave on high for 4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Stir every minute.
  • Cool on wax paper.
  • Enjoy!
  • OR --
  • Oven method: Pour mixture into a large cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • Stir every 5 minutes.
  • Add 1/2 cup of raisins.
  • Cool on wax paper.
  • Enjoy!

  1. I have made this granola four times now. I have used it as a gift, given it away, and had it eaten by my kids. It is wonderful. I made it just as the recipe described. One trick that I have learned is to mix all of the dry ingrediants together and then mix in the liquid ingrediants. This tends to help with the brown sugar distribution! 5 stars! I love it!

  2. This is excellent granola! I skip the coconut and add 1/2 cup sliced almonds. I've made it several times and learned a few things along the way as I experimented: 1) The oil/brown sugar/honey mixture was very clumpy which made it hard to evenly stir into the oats and it left brown sugar/honey clumps in the final product. I solved this by microwaving the honey/brown sugar/oil for one minute before stirring into the oats. This worked like a charm to partially disolve the sugar and make it more smooth. 2) The more oats you add, the less it clumps when cooled. I've found 3 1/2 cups old fashioned oats to be the right balance of sweetness and clumping for us.

  3. GREAT basic recipe for granola! As recommended by some I did 4 cups of old fashion oats, craisins, and almonds, and added a little more oats when I was done because I found it too sweet. The second batch I did I added a cup of coconut, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 5 tbs of honey, 4 cups of oats, and omitted the cinnamon--BEST granola I've ever had! I used to have a recipe just like it but I lost it, so THANK YOU. and I love that you can microwave it! It's so simple and so quick. make this, you won't regret it!

  4. I have made this many times now as my basic recipe. I have subbed butter for oil, raw cane sugar or honey for brown sugar and added other mix in and it has always turned out! I might need to add more oats if I use honey to keep it from being soggy, but the tecnique is perfect!

  5. Super easy granola recipe that can be adapted a bunch of different ways! It comes together quickly and turns out so delicious.

  1. hi i say all you need is coconut oil oats and honey its deliosios

  2. I skipped the coconut and added sliced almonds, raisins and sunflower seeds instead because that's what I had on hand.

  3. First time making granola. I made a few changes - omitted coconut but added more raisins (needed to use up), substituted Tilimook butter for the oil, substituted molasses for honey. I also dumped 1 cup of chopped pecans into the mix. This was so easy to make! It has the best crunch and clumping to it, and the taste is so wonderful - I will never buy granola again. Used the oven, stirred the stuff once through the cooking time. I did melt the butter, sugar and spices in microwave first. Mixed it really well, then added it to the oatmeal. Kept stirring till all of it was covered with butter and honey. This recipe is a foundation that you can easily customize to your own taste. A great base for granola.

  4. Very tasty! I substituted molasses for honey, added almond slices and flax seeds. Even past the milk test.

  5. If I could give this recipe more stars, I would. One word...awesome! I added 1 cup of sliced almonds and instead of raisins, I used a tropical dried fruit medley. All I can say is I will never buy granola again. This recipe is simply divine! Thank you and thank you to your 7th grade home ec teacher for this wonderful recipe. This is a keeper and I will make it again and again!
