Ground Turkey Casserole

"I found this recipe in Taste of Home magazine & added the broccoli. My family is more likely to eat vegetables if they can't really taste them. Enjoy!"

  1. It was a hit. My husband said it tasted like lasagna. To save time, I cooked the broccoli with the noodles. After straining, I used the same dish to make the cream cheese mixture.

  2. I had been excited to make this recipe since I found it because it sounded so good, and it didn't disappoint! It tasted a lot like lasagna, so now I will dub it lazy lasagna and put it in my regular rotation! I used a lot more spices like red pepper flakes and spiced cheese, and added it to the turkey and onions. I also added mushrooms and garlic to the saute pan. I used both spinach and broccoli in it, and when putting it in the baking dish, I added a layer of shredded mozzeralla in the middle and on top. I loved the blend of all the flavors! Really really good stuff!

  3. I loved this turkey casserole and so did the people at a small church gathering where I took it. It is definitely a keeper. I add some ground black pepper for extra zip. Sue

  4. I highly recommend this recipe, it is unbelievable!! I didn’t have tomato paste so I used 1 can of whole tomatoes and added beef stock for taste. I used 1lb ground turkey, Penne noodles, regular milk instead of dry milk powder - while I was melting the cream cheese I added milk and then added some flour to thicken the sauce, frozen parsley instead of fresh, and soy jack cheese. I really just used what I had. The only thing that I added different was spinach. Everyone loved it!!!

  5. Loved the addition of broccoli. A great way to add some nutrition to a dish. I think this is a keeper!

Tweaks

  1. Just made this tonight and it is awesome! Especially with some garlic bread and a glass of milk :) I did use regular milk instead of dry but besides that and the amount of cheese to sprinkle (I LOVE cheese) I stuck to the recipe. So good!

  2. This had great flavor. I'm trying to eat healthier using turkey instead of beef. I made this with fat free cream cheese & used some fat free sour cream in place of the dry milk powder. Although I did throw some in since I put the water in. The fresh parsley makes the flavor really good. I added some crushed red pepper from another suggestion, a bit of garlic & onion powder to the turkey. My very picky husband liked it. I did't put the broccoli in but will add something else next time, maybe chopped spinach. Will make again.

  3. Sooo delicious! I definately needed to add the pepper flakes and I used 1/2 c. light sour cream instead of the milk powder. I too increased the turkey to 1 lb and next time will use 4 c. noodles instead of just 3 to make a perfect 9x13 dish. I diddn't have garlic so I substituted Tastefully Simple's "Garlic Garlic" instead. My family loved it!

  4. This is really yummy comfort food. I doubled it for my family of six, because my two older boys eat massive amounts right now. I used spinach instead of broccoli, and didn't use parsley as I was out. I used 1 quart of home canned tomato sauce that had been seasoned with garlic and basil. My family gobbled it up, and my DH had to haggle with my teenagers in order to save some for his lunch. Thanks for posting.

  5. Very good and quick to throw together! Reheats well...I substituted spinach for broccoli, increased the seasoning, minced garlic and parsley and added salt and pepper to each layer for more flavor. Thanks for posting!
