  1. This has been a family favorite for years. It's so quick and easy to make. We've also tried substituting different vegetables and have tried cream of mushroom soup in place of the tomato. We always end up liking the original the best. I have to make enough Hamburger Pie the first night for leftovers for my youngest son. Otherwise, I end up making it 2 nights in a row!

  2. This was excellent! I added worcestershire sauce to the meat and substituted corn for the green beans(because hubby doesn't like them!) It smelled great while it cooked and we enjoyed it. I will definately make this again.

  3. My husband couldn't get enough of this pie, and he ate most of it himself! Main change I made was to put the filling in a pre-made frozen deep dish pie shell. Since that didn't leave much extra room for filling, I omitted most of the veggies from the filling but added half a chopped bell pepper which added some nice flavor. Only other change I made was to prepare the mashed potatoes as I normally would, which means using margarine and some sour cream and garlic powder. Overall, this is a wonderful recipe to tweak and change up how you'd like! Good ol' comfort food at its best.

  4. This was alright. Nothing spectacular. My kids ate it but no one said much or went for seconds. I think it was the tomato soup/potato/ green bean combo. It just didn't meld for me very well. Love trying new casseroles, this one just didn't hit it for us.

  5. Delicious - thank you SharleneW! I am not a confident cook however found this really easy. Great heart warming recipe for a cold winters night. I added chilli flakes and garlic which gave it a bit of a kick.

  1. MMM, MMM GOOD!!! I made this tonight because I was getting sick of the same old. It was really tasty and my husband is fussy but went back for seconds of this. I did use frozen corn instead of green beans, just because of my husbands personal taste but it was so yummy with corn I can't imagine using any other veggie in it. I can't wait to make it again, because it was super easy to prepare after a busy day at work!

  2. Substituted mixed vegetables for the green beans. It was pretty good. Still not sure about the tomato soup with mashed potatoes. I sort of had to close my eyes and eat it, but it tasted good!

I live in the San Francisco area and love it here. I discovered Recipezaar (then Food.com..Genius Kitchen) in 2001 and have been so happy to have my favorite recipes stored safely here. I am mother to 7 and grandmother to 7. I love to knit, smock, sew, etc., but my favorite hobby of the moment is traditional rug hooking. This is a sample of what I do.? It's called "November".? I dyed most of the wool myself. It is made from wool flannel, cut into strips a little less than 1/4" and then worked into a linen backing. This is my 3rd rug.
