Homemade Tvp Crumbles

"I love this recipe because now I can make and freeze these crumbles and never have to read the labels again to see if there is something in it that I can't eat. It is flexible and can be spiced for any type of dish that you would make using a hamburger substitute. Egg could be added to make patties. Sprinkled on salad is wonderful. Enjoy!"

  1. This was my first time using TVP, and it was much easier than I thought! I don't buy the brand name, prepared crumbles because of all the additives in them. These are perfect! I eliminated the curry, becasue we don't like it, and substituted a tsp of our favorite "McCormick" blend. I forgot the flour, but it seemed to not matter. I just made homemade red sauce with my added crumbles, and it was fantastic! The texture is excellent! I still had two containers to freeze. Thanks Joysain, I will be making these again!

  2. Made a batch of this today and was pleased with the results. I followed the recipe but did not need the whole wheat flour because I thought the mixture had gotten a bit dry in the hour that it sat. I sauteed mine with finely chopped onions and enjoyed the flavor. Seems like it's not too salty so can still take on more flavorings or salt when I remove it from the freezer to cook with. Made a batch of "taco meat" with it and found it to be quite tasty. Thanks for posting, Joysain, I like your recipe.

  3. Delicious and cheap! Great recipe! It's so nice to have pre-measured amounts of "ready" TVP in the freezer. The bf said they were good and tasted just as good as real ground beef (win!)

I miss eating so much because of allergies it can get depressing. I can have organic meat, (meaning we raise it ourselves, usually rabbits) Organic veggies but no soy(very recent discovery), bananas, or walnuts. So I must be creative or eat dull meals.
