Hungarian Goulash

"This recipe came from the Rival Crock Pot Slow Cooker recipe book that came with the Crock Pot! This is one of my familes favorites! I usually have to make a double recipe. I am a working mom and this is a great way to make some meals, the good old Crock Pot!"

  1. I'm giving this 5 stars, because I grew up on this stuff, and even though it may not be authentic Hungarian, it IS just a name. It has to be called something. I would say it is probably an Americanized version of Hungarian Paprikas. But, that aside, it doesn't matter. If you are looking for the original Rival crockpot recipe for Hungarian Goulash, that a lot of us grew up eating(and smelling when we got home from school-YUM!) then this is it. Can't beat it for comfort food.

  2. If I read this correctly, it states Hungarian Goulash, how did the word Polish get involved..??? I like the recipe, my family likes the recipe and my friends really like the recipe...my mom was Hungarian, this brought many good memories from the kitchen table as I remember as a young child... shupau semper-fi

  3. This is such a great recipe and wonderful dish to serve for your family -- or for company. I have almost the identical recipe posted (149743) and it has received very high ratings. The new review on your recipe caught my eye and I thought it was rather rude. I am not Hungarian -- so really can't say what and what not is used in their cooking. But I know the recipe I have is called Hungarian Goulash -- just as yours is and it has sour cream, tomatoes AND thyme in it. I think the one star rating is unfair -- especially if it is a result of someone rating the recipe based on its name and ingredients instead of the wonderful dish that it is. If I could I'd give it more stars!

  4. original hungarian recipe never calls for thyme, if tomatoes, than maybe 1/2 of a plumb tomato, and never sour cream. this is supposed to be a sour and always served with fresh bread. the polish etc. variety is thick and maybe served on noodles.

  5. This is an excellent recipe - I have been using it for years and it offers a nice alternative to a more basic beef stew. I set it up with my bread machine and one of the crock-pot cobbler recipes for a wonderful dinner ready when you get home. Perfect for cold winter days. Thanks for posting this!

I have lived in Vancouver since 1987. I am a transplant from Minnesota. We have 3 grown sons, a wonderful daughter in law, 2 beautiful granddaughters,1 grandson 2 dogs (1 Border Collie named Molly and 1 Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix named Gulliver, that we rescued) . I am for now working in property management and still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. My job is interesting, but quite demanding! My DH wants me to quit, I would love to stay home and be his goddess. I love to be at the beach flying kites, sailing with our friends, billiards, cooking, grilling and entertaining friends and family. We downhill ski in the winter and enjoy our family and our animals . If I had a month off I would love to spend it with our family together at warm tropical destination. Just enjoy our grown children and our grandchildren. Then when that trip came to an end, I would love for my DH & I to spent some time somewhere warm and tropical all alone. I could become quite the traveler. We had some life changes last October, I lost my balance and fell. I had 2 spiral breaks in my leg, my tibia and my fibula and another small half moon break. I did have some surgery and have 3 plates and 16 screws in my leg until this coming spring in March, then I will have some hardware removed, hopefully. Had to give up some sports! But heck it could be a lot worse. My DH just started a new job! That's good news!
