Hungarian Potatoes

"This recipe is an adoptee from the RecipeZaar account. It's a nice, simple potato casserole; very satisfying. Next time I make it, I will toss the potatoes with most of the butter, rather than leaving the butter in the bottom of the casserole. I will also drizzle the top with some butter (the breadcrumbs don't seem to brown, otherwise). I hope you like it!"

  1. I found this pretty bland as well. I think some herb(s) would help and more butter, too. Hubby loved it but I found it a bit ho=hum.

  2. Yum.

  3. Try mixing the sourcream with one egg and pour it on the top. Leave it in oven until it browns. You need some smoked meat in it or some sausage otherwise it is quite blend.

  4. YUMMY! Reminds me of a creamy, warm potato salad. I diced my potatoes instead of slicing them. My sour cream was reduced fat and worked just fine. I took the suggestion in the intro to toss the butter with the potatoes.... very good suggestion. I'm not sure that it's that important to layer everything. To save some time, I think all could just be mixed together and baked. Thanx for adopting this recipe. I'll use it again!

  5. We thoroughly enjoyed this potato dish. I followed your suggestion by tossing the potatoes with the butter. The only thing I did different was use 2 eggs only because that was all I had on hand (that's what I get for not checking first). Anyway, it still came out perfect and we loved this dish. Great flavor and very easy to make too. Thanks for this winner, Aunt Cookie.

RECIPE SUBMITTED BY

I wandered onto Recipezaar less than a year ago, looking for a lentil soup recipe. I'm pretty sure I haven't left the computer since then...I've been completely sucked in by this site! Of course, I do take the occasional break to actually cook the recipes I find. When I'm not at my computer or in the kitchen, I'm working toward my PhD in clinical psychology from Kent State. I also work as a therapist at the campus clinic, teach a class (Social Psychology this semester), and work as a research assistant. I'm a little bit busy. I do usually find time every day to cook something for myself with the help of this site, and to exercise (to counteract the effects of the great recipes I find here). I don't have much time in my life for hobbies at the moment (sigh), but I seem to recall that I used to like reading, going to see musical performances, and watching movies. I still do my best to travel as much as possible. My sister, Kate, my boyfriend, Jake, and my friend, Kris, are my favorite travel partners. Kate and I go on an "eatacation" every year. The picture above is (from left) Andrea, me, and Kris, on our first annual Tacky Tourist Weekend.
