Indian Dhal

"Taken from Charmaine Solomon (she has the most fantastic Asian recipes) this is easy, healthy, comfort food. Great with rice, Indian breads or on its own. Any lentil can be used but red lentils cook quickly and don't need soaking, (if using any other sort soak overnight), I've never tried it with anything other than red lentils. As one reviewer has commented this isn't a spicy Indian dish and therefore makes a great accompaniment / side dish to othe rspicy curries. Also its a great way of introducing children to Indian food (my 4yr loves it) and I'm happy because its full of protein for her."

  1. How can something so easy and inexpensive to make taste so good?

  2. This was good. Served with Basmati Rice. Both kids (4 and 6) liked it.

  3. Wow this is really good! Perfect amount of spices for us, well DH didn't try it yet but I imagine! We don't like deathly hot! I just ate it on it's own. I think this would make a good soup with more homemade chicken broth that I used in replacement of the water. I used olive oil to be healthy, sea salt and Recipe #279714. I will definitely make this again for DH trying it in soup format. Made for ZWT6 Asian region, for my team, The Ya Ya Cookerhood!

  4. Loved this! Easy to make, yet had the bit of exotic Indian flavors to it..... without being too spicy. I garmished this with fresh cilantro leaves. I used brown lentils, but otherwise made this as written. Thanx!

  5. * Reviewed for ZWT6 Whine and Cheese Gang * A good basic dhal that cooked up quickly with clear instructions. Very mild so child-friendly to senstive tastebuds and would be a good match to a super spicey dish or a spicey sweet or hot meal. Photo also to be posted

Tweaks

  1. We really liked this! I used chicken broth instead of water as another reviewer suggested but other than that no changes. Kids all loved it, DH loved it. Will definitely make again. Thanks so much Lou!

  2. I liked this but my husband and son were absolutely in love with this. I did make a few changes... instead of water I used chicken broth and I didn't have red lentils but I used the little brown ones. I served it with chicken 65 and indian spiced rice. Wonderful!!!
